Hey everyone, hope you had a great weekend! I'm uploading a little earlier tonight because it's done early, and why not. So if you're checking a night before, yay. Early update.

Before I forget, next week will have no comic. June requested a week off, as she will be very busy on personal stuff, and so we'll be back 2 weeks from now.

As for the comic itself.. Well.. That's pretty much everyone... Beth was the last holdout, and she's now taken the trip to Onesville. The montage beforehand is showing the various people involved at the higher levels, just to illustrate that they'd already been in the machine.

As a note to people who care about the process side of things, I had to change the first panel's text. John was initially going on about how he could fake a replacement, and that the Phantom seemed a little suspicious at the time, but we just finished showing that they are all in the machine!

So it didn't jive well. It was in the past, but it threw off the flow having the Phantom's head in the machine in the panels just before it.

Therefore, changed it to a reference to one of the earliest strips. I'm not sure if people will get the joke if they haven't read it in a long time, but it's there as a throwback :)

Well, that's that. Have a great week, and another after that. We'll be here to answer comments and questions, but no comic next week. Take care!

Oh, I wanted to say if you want to check out comics in the interim, Super-Chi makes some good ones. Worme, the intergalactic hit-woman, is a completed comic that is awesome. Ball and Chain is an ongoing story that is also awesome.

Check them out!

God no BETHHhhhh!!!

...so who's left at this point? :(
Magravan edit delete reply

John and Sarah. Every zombie is in the machine or randomly wandering some place that the combined forces of the PSOs / Rebellion couldn't find them.

Those two are the only clones that are not currently still on ice. So it's literally just the two of them. And it's been over a year and a half now.

WOW!

If a zombie is in a VR machine, the machine still feeds them TOGM through the straw, doesn't it? How much of a supply do they have?

That begs the question: Will they still degrade slowly, and does the machine feed them less TOGM than they would need if they were walking around?

Also, will they live virtually forever as Ones, or eventually starve to death, and how long does that take?

Finally, what is the ultimate goal of John’s research? Is he trying to make TOGM, cure the Zombie disease, or something else? It looks like he is still just trying to understand the situation, and has not started doing anything about it…
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
The TOGM going into the straw dried up a long time ago. The lives of the Ones and One-likes are pretty terrible right now, but fortunately, they don't really understand what's going on, so they can't appreciate that the humans they are killing aren't yielding anything.

As for starving, it would take a very, very long time if it is possible at all. They would just be completely mindless other than the hunger after a long time. No ability to determine other zombies, no forethought, just mindless hunger.

The ultimate goal is to understand what the Green Stuff is. Creating TOGM is a remote possibility, but it relies on the same source that his Green Stuff research is utilizing.

So at this point he could sacrifice some of his not unlimited clone supply for the sake of trying to recreate TOGM, and maybe cost himself on the long term...

They are getting very little at this point -- if at all. It's more of a pacifier effect at this point.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Yeah, down to none. No point feeding the Ones at the expense of Beth.. Oh, and no one asked what you thought they were going to ask.

Yet :D

I trust you too, John! Things are always darkest just before dawn (of the dead).

That's true... Of course, sometimes the night is really, really long...

... wow... that... I don't have words. I just... beth is gone. John and sarah are all that is left. I just don't know how this can get better.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Because it's so good, right? .. Wait, that's not what you meant? :O
model S (Guest) edit delete reply
Sort of both actually. The writing is really good and keeping me on the edge of my seat, but the situation is so bad I feel for john and beth and rz and all of them. I don't know how either can get better.
Muchacho NL edit delete reply

I think he meant the situation can't get any worse, and because of the loved characters falling out one by one, he doesn't see it get any better soon :)

Haha, I know :)

...why did Beth lose her hair?
Skrael (I'm the artist)
It was a wig - when Beth turned, her hair eventually just broke off or fell out close to the root, and obviously did not grow back in :) All the Enlightened with nice hair are wearing wigs. John took it off because he could no longer maintain it for her, and didn't want to give her anything to get tangled up in as she degenerated.
Skrael (I'm the artist)
Also, if you look back at the comic where they reveal their former lives prior to enlightenment, you can see Beth - as a cancer patient - with a very similar hair cut as well.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Annnd, I'm guessing this is where you get asked the question you expected :)

As for my answer, it's because it's called the Hair Club for Men, and Beth isn't a Men. :D

So official.

What I don't understand, is why everybody in the VR machine is still exactly who they are, and Beth deteriorates...
Or is it a flash forward from where they were just put in to Beth deteriorating?
Skrael (I'm the artist)
Muchacho, you win the -not-my-boobies prize! This is the question that James was referring to. The answer is that Beth had been maintaining them the whole time, because she felt badly for her friends and had the means/ability to do so. Now that Beth is a One, the rest will start breaking down as well. Remember that they are mostly makeup/putty/plastic surgery.

I'm almost afraid to ask what the 'not-my-boobies-prize' is :D... almost :)

She said you'd get a Booby Prize and I said that she couldn't give you a booby prize, because all her boobies belonged to me :)

I'm confused as to why I would receive a consolation prize for asking the question she was hoping for...

Meh, whatever.

Thanks, Skrael! :D
asheswillfall (Guest) edit delete reply
Good job Muchacho NL! I just assumed that was right after they were put in.

aok666: I remember there were places with apple trees and canned goods in that warehouse. There's probably other edibles around that they didn't pay attention to because they didn't need them.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
So the bits under the VR headsets have already crumbled?
Boy, Beth will have a LOT of patching-up to do once she regains her Fourhood.
What have John and Sarah been eating all this time?
Muchacho NL edit delete reply
Muchacho NL
Mainly canned beans from that large warehouse, probably.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
...I really hope they have good ventilation in their lab, then!
Skrael (I'm the artist)
I'm going to leave this one to James to answer definitively, but I believe that Robert had some greenhouses and food production areas in the TOGM factory for feeding the clones? I'm really not entirely sure, this is just how I imagined it.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Oh, with all the zombies locked up, there are plenty of places for them to get food now. Warehouse, nature, bunker, all that good stuff. I didn't have the pages to go into it.
asheswillfall (Guest) edit delete reply
Have they gotten anywhere after a year and a half?

I'm trying to figure out the question Skrael is waiting for us to ask...
Have John and his assistant gotten closer, as in relationship-wise?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Bah... I wrote a long thing, and then it got removed when I clicked to reply to your second one, apparently too quickly.

They have a much better understanding of how the Green Stuff works, how it infects. That it would have been really, really bad for John to get 'directly physical' with Beth.

They haven't cracked the process of Enlightenment, and their Clone supply is getting low enough for concern.

The question Skrael was expecting was the one Muchacho just asked :)

John and Sarah's relationship will be the focus of the next portion of the comic, so I'm not going to spoil anything :)
asheswillfall (Guest) edit delete reply
Oooh, what was Sarah before the enlightenment?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Sarah is a clone, so before the Enlightenment she was non-existant :)

The real Sarah was either an Orange Orange frozen yogurt vendor, a Weinerlicious girl, a super spy, or a very blatant Chuck reference :D
Annoyingstoryproblemguy (Guest) edit delete reply
Can you find a seven digit number which describes itself? The first digit is the number of zeros in the number. The second digit is the number of ones in the number, etc. For example, in the number 21200, there are 2 zeros, 1 one, 2 twos, 0 threes and 0 fours.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
6000000?
Same Guy (Guest) edit delete reply
3211000
Same Guy (Guest) edit delete reply
Your answer is also OK. :)
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Hahaha, I figured there was a 'proper' answer, but the easiest just seemed to subtract 1 from the number of digits and make everything else 0s :D
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Looking at it again, my answer is wrong. There is a 6, but I've indicated that the number of 6s is 0.

But, at least you were on board with me, so it wasn't a completely obvious mistake :)
Guest (Guest) edit delete reply
What about 60000010 then? :D
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
No, because there's a 0 for the 1s column as well. 3211000 is probably the only number that fits the bill. 3 0s, 2 1s, 1 2, 1 3 and nothing higher.
Muchacho NL edit delete reply
Muchacho NL
Plus, it had to be a 7 digit number.
Annoyingstoryproblemguy (Guest) edit delete reply
There can be only 1! ;)

From now on (if permitted) I will post only TOGM/Zombie themed problems. :)
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Of course :) Though, brain teasers are probably easier to answer than TOGM themed problems ;)
