Hey guys, hope you're had a good weekend!

Well, lots of things going on in this one... Some nice story development, a bit of suspense that I'm sure will be relieved in a timely manner. June's pretty sure you're going to focus on the 'sensuality' of the scene though.

And come on, of all the webcomics out there, this was one of the cooler ways to cause a change in clothing, don't you think?

So, we definitely hit 20 on TopWebcomics for over a week... I'll admit, I was surprised. Compared to some of the comics on that list, we're not getting anywhere near the readership numbers. So I guess our readers are just really incredible in these supportive things...

Send your emails to TOGMshirt@gmail.com if you want to be included in the contest for a shirt.

Take care, and have a good week! We'll see you on Thursday :D

Bruises aren't an easy thing to draw, but they sure are fun!

ALSO! Drawing hands cutting with scissors is hard. And NOT FUN AT ALL!

James, this scene was totally homoerotic. I love it! :D

Looks like John somehow moved between panel 1 and 4, curious, but not important, as the beating gave him back some of his memory! Keep up the great work!
Skrael (I'm the artist)
CarlRedifi: Thank you :D He' supposed to be sitting up in panel four a little, but I think I failed on the perspective or shading or something ;)

Very good job on the bruise! I can even see the little veins in it. And John does look a bit odd in the last one but... Who is Robert talking to??? Himself? Why would he tell himself to be quiet?
Tiber (Guest) edit delete reply
In panel 1, Robert has what appears to be a small headset (which would explain why he's talking). However, it seems to have fallen off or been taken off in panel 3. Either way, I'm sure that its disappearance was completely intentional by the artist.

"James, this scene was totally homoerotic. I love it! :D"
From the proverbial mouth of the artist herself... So that is canon then? TOGM is now going to be 'a necrophiliac yaoi comic about cultured zombies and the last human on earth'? :P
Also, apparently Robert isn't as cultured as he pretends to be! Cutting up a JoCo shirt like that... Disrespectful!

Is that "Alice" a reference to your very favorite fan (me) my screen name on a bunch of sites is damagedalice. Usually shortened to Alice. (if you ever show Alice make sure she has ref hair in a pony tail and green eyes!)
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@model S: if they were telling the truth on FaceBook, it's a ref to ME. Sorry :-D

@Magravan&Skrael: Guessing that "Alice" is John getting Lisa's name wrong?
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
PS @Skrael: totally amazing bruise BTW. More detail than the DustBunnies. Don't forget to make it go a weird yellow/brown colour over a few days. (And good job on the scissors&hand combo too. Though shame to ruin that shirt.)
It doesn't look yaoi to me. It looks like Robert's checking for broken ribs.

I'd say Robert is talking to someone equal or even senior to him, but Robert's a five, the most senior zombie out there! Hmmm. I am most intrigued.

I'm assuming Robert put the IV in, and is taking care of John's medical needs.
Does this mean that, with all his smartiness, he has all (or at least some) of the medical knowledge of the brains eaten in his zombie pyramid scheme?
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@T. Gatto: More likely he can read up on what he needs to know(and understand it) extremely fast.

@CarlRedifi - Or did it? :O

@Frosty - Geez, a few boy nipples and you're broken? :)

@asheswillfall - Sometimes I wonder when you guys ask these really spoilery questions if you think I'm going to give you a straight answer :)

@Tiber - The 3rd panel is supposed to be a fair amount of time afterward, given that John's had some time to rest, gotten his fluids back up and everything.

@MarshmallowGherkin - Ahahaha.. If she wants to start writing it, maybe :P

@model S - It is definitely not, given that I have no idea about that stuff at all... And if we did show Alice, it'd be Alice as I need her to be, even though her name was borrowed from aok666 :)

@aok666 - Yeah, I was just coming up with random girl names to use as a code, and happened to see your name on the Facebook page comments. Ta dah! :P

And that's certainly a good question about Lisa / Alice :O

Regarding the bruise, June was commenting that this is the first time that she's had to draw a fresh bruise that she can remember, I believe. She's more used to the faded bruising, artistically :)

The shirt had to go eventually, as much as I like JoCo. This seemed like a great way to deal with it :D

@PhilC - Mission accomplished!

@T.Gatto - He did indeed put the IV in, and is taking care of John's medical needs. Think Flowers for Algernon, he's just capable of vast amounts of knowledge...

@aok666 - Pretty much ;) His capacity for knowledge and his ability to access new information is superhuman.
Skrael (I'm the artist)
What I want to know is how the heck did Chad not kill John with that kick, considering his body type? I guess I'll have to RAFO too :D
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@Skrael: Presumably Chad couldn't be bothered to use his full potential kicking force on John. No point, since it apparently wouldn't affect Beth - and he wanted to save some batteries (or whatever) for beating R.Z. to a pulp. So Chad kicked John just enough to stop him from running for help or anything.
Mirefrost00 (Guest) edit delete reply
First thing that came to mind was, "My name is Alice, and I remember everything." Although this situation is quite the reverse of that, isn't it? :D
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@Mirefrost00: Where's that from? My name is Alice and I have a memory like a sieve: the important stuff falls out and only the rubbish stays behind.
Mirefrost00 (Guest) edit delete reply
It's from the movie Resident Evil: Apocalypse, the second of the movies based on the Resident Evil survival horror video games. The main character of the movie, Alice, says that line in the last few minutes of the movie.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
That explains it then. I am incompatible with most video games due to (my) mild coordination issues, so I never watched any of the Resident Evil films. Looks like I maybe missed out!
(My dad always says that his memory is like a sponge: soaks up everything, but under the slightest pressure everything falls out again.)
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Sudden thought! Thomas was supposedly Robert's best friend, but Ol' Corpsey wrote that he and Thomas were making mad-scientist jokes at Robert's expense... is Robert deluded or was Thomas just a rather mean friend?
BeeSharp (Guest) edit delete reply
"Her powers, both physical and mental are developing at a geometric rate."

What is that even supposed to mean?! Resident evil science is hilarious.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@BeeSharp: Looks like someone mixed up the words "geometric" and "exponential".
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Wow, you guys talked a lot lol ;)

@Skrael - He wasn't out to kill him, just incapacitate him.

@aok666 - That pretty much sums it up, yes. He was just kicking him to add insult to injury...

@Mirefrost00 - Well, Alice might have been very good at remembering, but memory is not a strong suit of John's ;)

@aok666 - Uhm... I don't know that the Resident Evil movies were something I'd feel too badly about having missed... Some of them are pretty terrible.

As for Thomas, Dr. Murphy and Robert, I tend to joke around a lot with the people I like, and they aren't always the kindest jokes.. It's bad enough that we've designated Monday as the day where we all mock each other... It's kind of hilarious, and bond-y in a twisted, almost brotherly way.

@BeeSharp - The game science seemed cool, if stretched... The movie science ...

@aok666 - It's interchangable, maybe? Either that, or someone from Resident Evil has been editing the Wiki entry to cover it up ;)
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Only interchangable for discrete variables according to Wikipedia, and someone's powers (both physical and mental) aren't a discrete variable. Unless you're talking about zombie 1-5 ranks.

Hehe, after panel 1 all I could think of was "it seems he is only MOSTLY dead!"
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Why did Robert have all this old (and useless-to-zombies) medical equipment stashed away anyway?
Guest (Guest) edit delete reply
Is that... an enema bag in panel 1?
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@Guest: It's an IV (a drip-feed).
asheswillfall (Guest) edit delete reply
I'm going to lose cool points here, but what's JoCo???
(I don't get out much and from a corn growing state)
asheswillfall (Guest) edit delete reply
@Mag of course we'd like it some if you did hint or share spoilers (even privately) :)

I'm getting the impression since there wasn't any proper chat bubbles and was still having what seemed to be a conversation, that he was talking telepathically?
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@asheswillfall: 1) JoCo = Jonathon Coulton, the man who produced the song "Re: Your Brains" (which inspired this comic)
2) There are proper speechbubbles in panel 1, in panel 2 they'd have to point offscreen (usual procedure with speechbubbles is that if you can't see the face they're coming from, they have no pointy bit). Look at Robert in panel 1 and you'll spot his headset - he's talking over that.

this is a 2 fold comment:

first is to answer june's question about how john didn't die: i have a martial artist friend ((he knows like 5 different styles)) who's about the size of chad, great guy, trying to get him into the comic. i'm about john's size ((i'm actually 6 foot 2, 120-130 pounds)) one day through a series of events involving an apple splitting perfectly down the middle on his ear, which pissed him off, he went all martial arts on me, with a very powerful knee to the chest, so much so i coughed up some blood, no bruise though, i was winded and nearly knocked out from the force, but according to him unless the sternum was broken or ribs punctured lungs any hit to the chest would be non fatal, unless the strike knocked your heart around and disconected something. then you'd die of internal bleeding. but that's a diffrent story. chad's kick didn't have that kind of force, you'd have to be the flash and kick the same spot over and over to do that, or superman, but superman could just rip you in half with less effort.

as for the second fold: i wanted to ask james: did you see that we FINALLY got our first comic up? ((i wiped the other 2 cause they were in the way))

I just noticed that (at least to me) John suddenly looks a little more like Thomas (he lost the out of place "lost" look), is he getting memories of his other self back, or was he possibly a bad guy before he lost his memory? Inquiring minds want to know! :)
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@connorduh - I love when people get the references :D

If you rush a miracle, you get a rotton miracle :)

@aok666 - That's a good question. :D Fortunately, I have the answer. And it's a good answer too. ;)

@Guest - I don't even want to know what kind things you've been looking up on the internet that you'd know more about an enema bag than an IV bag ;)

I don't think that we're ever going to see enema bags in TOGM, sorry ;)

@aok666 - Yes, definitely.

@asheswillfall - Someone already answered, but yeah, JoCo is Jonathon Coulton, who is both the writer of the RE: Your Brains and a very cool guy. We have a picture of June and I meeting him and him holding a picture with John wearing the JoCo shirt.

We also met Lar DeSouza from Looking For Group / Least I Could Do at his concert, so it was kind of like geek heaven ;D

In the case of spoilers, I already think that I give way too much away in these comments ;)

And no, the 2nd panel doesn't have proper chat bubbles because he wasn't directly in the panel. I was trying to limit the amount of art I was having to cover up, especially because you couldn't see the face.. I guess that was an experiment that failed.

@aok666 - Yeah, pretty much exactly what you said. Although I didn't realize that it was convention to not have the pointy bit in this case.

@model S - And yet in some cases, you can kill with a lot less force than you'd think it would take. Sometimes things just survive that shouldn't, and sometimes things die that shouldn't. Life is strange like that.

Annnnnd, no, I haven't seen it yet. I'll go look for it now!

@T.Gatto - Well, they look pretty similar in general... That was part of the deception in the first place, that they look so similar. I think that Thomas just had a negative attitude, whereas John's been able to experience a lot of positives despite being in this less than ideal world ;)
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@Magravan: I suspect that Thomas saw a lot more of the bad side of zombies (e.g. having to go through the Waste) while John saw... well, a lot more of the good side than he would have predicted at the start. (And he saw it over and over on his cameras... I guess lad mags aren't made any more in TOGMverse.)
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
I don't even know what lad mags are? :)

And yes, obviously Thomas had seen enough to start the rebellion ;)

model S edit delete reply

while i do know that, on average, it takes i think 350 PSI of force to kill you with a strike to the chest most people can only output about 80, body builders etc can output about 200 applied correctly, still not enough for a single strike kill, but enough to hurt quite a bit.
Crazedredleg (Guest) edit delete reply
It took a long time to find a good Zomcom webcomic of this caliber, so please don't yaoi it up due to the plaintive cries of folks like marshmallowgherkin. He can get that sort of content elsewhere.
Magravan edit delete reply

@Millie ETE - Oh, that makes sense... It must be a British phrase :)

@aok666 - And we appreciate your restraint ;)

@model S - Which is always good for the whole not dying part of life ;)

@Crazedredleg - Haha, if he got too insistent, I could suggest a Karl / Chad yaoi subcomic :P (Though, that might quiet him and stir up a bunch of others...)
