Happy New Year everyone! First TOGM of 2012!

So the purpose of this strip was two-fold. Well, three-fold if you count trying to win the 'most text walled page in a long time' award.

Firstly, I wanted to continue letting Chad rant. He's been pretty ticked for a long time, so I figured he could use some monologuing...

Secondly, and probably far more importantly, I wanted to show his motivations. He doesn't have to be right, or even make complete sense to the readers... I'm just hoping that it explains his behaviours, while at the same time hoping that you guys don't feel that he's justified in his actions.

Like I tell my kids, you're allowed to feel angry, it's your actions while angry that can get you in trouble...

So I'm hoping that you guys are content that he's not just being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk.

So we have 3 more strips to go before the end of this book... I'm sure you guys are thinking "MY GOD THIS DRAGS ON SOOO MUCH!" but it's really seemed like time flew for a while for me.

I can tell you that the next 2 strips (Thursday and Monday) will be split into 2 scenes each, like I did for the end of the 2nd book. 225, on the other hand, will be a COLOSSAL 5 or 6 panel monstrosity focusing on several different scenes, and wrapping up stuff while subsequently setting the stage for the next portion of the story.

So, we here at TOGM want to extend our best wishes for all of our readers and fellow creators for 2012! See you Thursday!!

I don't think it's terribly difficult to be first these days ;)

taking into consideration the vast number of webcomics I read, and how many of them have comment capability, and that this one is highest up on the list with that capability it actually is rather impressive I think

Magravan
Fair enough ;D

Which list are you talking about?

Your comment reminded me about TopWebcomics, so I went to see how we're doing on there... 18th place, ahead of MISFILE. HOLY CRAP. You readers are .. Just ... Wow. I realize that they'll probably blow past us eventually, but it's been a full day, and they have SOOOO MANY readers in comparison to our tiny little comic.

Thank you guys so much for your support. You're incredible! (Side note, not that he needs the support from us, but if you enjoy cars, racing and a story about a guy in a girl's body, Misfile's a great comic. It's one of the ones that isn't on CF that I can say I'm usually caught up on.)

Edit: Didn't last, but it was nice for a while :D

I really like this webcomic, it brings a whole new twist to the whole zombie apocalypse ideal, with that said I did forget about this webcomic for like a week about a month ago but now its on my Safari top pages that i come to about ever day or two! So keep up the good work guys!

wow. chad's a bigger asshole than i ever thought, ... wait... does that mean beth is RZ's mother, and chad is his father? or is chad RZ's father and beth not his biological mother... i guess that's a RAFO?

anyways: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! sorry i had to get that out.

@james: i read misfile, i find it quite entertaining.

@Condottieri - I have no idea what Safari top pages are, but thanks for the support! I'm glad that you're enjoying the story, and we're always glad to hear that people like what we're doing. It helps to combat the occasional bout of insecurity that a lot of webcomic people seem to suffer through.

@model S - Happy Birthday! I meant to say it in the original author's note, but I got side tracked while writing it. I hope you have a great day, and get to spend it with people you like. All the best!

Oh, and ... I guess we'll call it RAFO for now... I might just come out and confirm his parentage, and his real name at some point... We'll see if it comes out in the course of the story, or if I just get tired of waiting and throw it out there.

Edit: Nevermind, I wrote it in either in 223 or 224.

I just read the whole thing from beggining to the latest one... I must say the concept itsel is incredibly captivating and the story even more so.
I am eager to see how the rest of the story develops.

Well thank you very much. I always joke that the original idea was good, the execution maybe not so much :)

Beth isn't RZ's mother, is she?

It will be definitively answered in 223 or 224 :)

Sweet Neptune's buttocks if I had a million dollars I'd pay you to draw me as a character into this page just so I can kick that big oaf in the nuts...unless they don't feel pain there anymore in which case a shotgun would do.

On a brighter note Happy New Year to you folks too! As usual keep up the fantastic work. Now I can go sleep and dream that John somehow pulls an awesome moment and kicks Chad's butt.
model S (Guest) edit delete reply
@James: thanks James. Means alot! knowing you i was half expecting to hop on only to see pic of Beth, only covered by "happy birthday" on,top and "S" on the bottom. ah well can't be all wins.

Thanks for the great update. I don't want to shoot Chad in the face because he's a jackass anymore. I want to beat him senseless with the business end of a needler (from halo) because he's a cockbite who needs to get his mouth shut for him...,with violence.

Wow, totally derped there and forgot to add my note to June: i really like how you drew Chad in the first and 4th panel. great work.

Last (at least for now)!

Happy Birthday Model S!

What Chad used a few 3 syllable words in his rant, I'm impressed. This makes me wonder if you were a dumb-ass before enlightenment, could you become a genius if you got near the top of the pyramid?
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
And will the real-name question also be answered in 223/224? This is keeping me sane through the worst bits of revision!

@Jandalman - They don't feel pain to the same degree. It would still be unpleasant, I'm sure, but it's not going to have the same uumph.

@model S - That'd be a hard precedent to keep up, I think... Considering the fact that if we did a personalized birthday picture for you, we'd have to start doing it for other readers as well... That would quickly snowball into burnout for June...

@T.Gatto - Yes. That's sort of a theme I'm addressing in this portion of the story. The Enlightenment changed people, some for the better, some for the worse...

It changed the system, and those who threw humanity to the wind are typically the ones who benefitted from it. Others got carried along for the ride, like Beth.

However, once the humans had all died out, ruthlessness is no longer a positive trait... Some have adapted better than others to that fact.

@aok666 - RAFO :P ... Nah, just kidding. Nope, definitely not. Sometime in Book 4, maybe.

@model S: Happy birthday!

@Magravan: I really like Your comic, it shows completely new "side/view" of zombie apocalypse and Your style is great so it's pleasure to look at it... and read it, of course q-:

I have a little bit complex question:
Do the zombies have an active "blood" circulatory system - eg. beating heart - or it's inactive?

Since Beth "didn't see" any blood or green substance when treating R.Z. / stung herself finger, I'm assuming it's inactive. But then: when she feels urge for John and his... boner, is she driven by hormones - which are carried by blood vessels inside the body?

(Don't ask me how the hell I got this idea q-: )

The specific inner workings are a mystery at this point. On the plus side, book 4 should give me more time for exploration into the green stuff.

Also, by style I presume you mean drawing, at which point I have to point out that I am NOT responsible for any of the art relating to TOGM. That would be a gross disservice to all the time that June (Skrael) puts into the comic for me to take credit for any of it.

@Magravan:

Sorry, please forward my compliment to June too(-:

HAHAHAHAHA I just spotted that he's giving her (or possibly RZ, or maybe even US the readers) a two-finger salute!
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
223/224:
RZ: "Are you my mummy?"
Beth: "Yes, I am your mummy!"
RZ: "Are you my mummy?"
Beth: "YES, I am and I always will be your mummy!"
RZ: "Is that jackass my daddy?"
Beth: "Er... 'fraid so. I think my drink was spiked that night."
model S (Guest) edit delete reply
@James: i know. But i was just saying, it just seems like something you'd do, i wasn't literally expecting it, but i bet if it wasn't for the fact it would lead to a burnout for June you would have done something like that.
just_idd (Guest) edit delete reply
Question, at what point did the comic page number diverge from the archive number? right now pg 221 is on archive 272. I was a bit confused when reading the RZ reveal would be on 22 whatever and looking at the url and seeing /272. Perhaps in the html page title at the top of the page you can add the actual comic page number. Something like: The Other Grey Meat - Complex Motivations - pg 221

@model S: Happy Birthday and a Happy Nude Deer to you.

model S edit delete reply
model S
@just_idd: nude deer? i... what?

the page deviated on page 3 ((happy hallowe'en 2)) it was the first non comic page pushing comic page 3 to page 4.

is his shirt getting smaller or is that a detail i did not notice before?
EnterTheNameHere edit delete reply
It seems like he's getting bigger and bigger with continuing rage.

But I assume this is not a pun to suchlike hero and the green stuff (-:
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@EnterTheNameHere - I will!

@aok666 - That's awesome that you noticed that :D When I explained to June what I intended, I said "Backwards, like giving the finger.. not like giving a peace sign.."

But yeah, he was giving it to Beth :D

Also, please stop giving away the script for future comics! Now I have to rewrite it :O

@model S - Haha, I'll choose to take that as a compliment, in that you think I'm considerate enough of the readers, rather than a ruthless exploiter of June :D

@just_idd - It diverged on ... page 3, probably. :) And then ... moreso on the flyer, and fan arts and so on... :D

The easiest way is to just look at the top of the page... I guess I could go back and change all the names to include the actual page number, but I can't guarantee that I will :)

@model S - Happy New Year... Nude Deer.. I dunno, I thought it was cute... Nude Year might be more appealing, mind you.

@sp4depir4te - I'm going to say that it's just looking more tight as he flexes in certain ways and certain positions :D

@EnterTheNameHere - Hahaha... To be fair, I don't really like him when he's angry :D

i meant it as a compliment. and yes a nude year would be great... if beth is involved. or sylene. but more beth.
