Wow... This one took forever to put together. Over an hour and a half, which is atypical for me.

I hope that this works for people... I'm not sure if people buy the motivation for Chad not to take John out completely, but I'm not sure if it's explained well enough.

Time's running down, so take care everyone! Have a great weekend!

I love/hate how Chad keeps getting John's name wrong, even after RZ yells it.

So much for John's Kungfu :)
Asheswillfall (Guest) edit delete reply
@Meed you mean Bane.

Poor John :(
I'm wondering what he means by he can't seem to do it, like he thinks he's supposed to be in a different body or his amnesia is still kicking his butt and he knows how to deactivate Chad but just can't remember.

What went snap? Spine or ribs?

Any moment now, the Phantom and Kayte are going to go Ninja on Chad!

Those 3 days as a karate Instructor, and 2 days as Pro Wrestler will really pay off!
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Do you get wheelchair-bound zombies? Because if not, John's in real trouble.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@MatthewJA - He can take it!

@Meed - Bane's a little more juiced up than Chad :)

@MarshmallowGherkin - You know, I'm not sure if he's ever gotten his name right...

@Muchacho NL - Maybe he should have done more than watch Kung Fu - The Legend Continues reruns...

@Asheswillfall - I'm not sure if I should answer that one just yet... I'm trying to figure out if it is too spoiler-y to explain it... I'll think about it some more and see if it makes sense to answer it.

@aok666 - Ribs. Spine would have been good if we were finishing the story in Book 3 though ;)

@T.Gatto - Why do I get the feeling that Katie's odd jobs would make for an amusing mini-comic?

@aok666 - No. Maybe people who should be in wheelchairs, but generally speaking if they can get a wheelchair, they can get a Replacement.

I think I have it: John hasn't been working out recently, because he forgot that he was supposed to due to the amnesia, so his muscles have atrophied and he can't do what he could previously have done to Chad.
It does look like his spine has gone. I think Chad's foot needs to be a bit higher up John's chest and a bit less central (because broken sternum = death, that's the big risk with CPR)... the art is still amazing though, it's me being useless here, remember that I have trouble making out patterns normally which could be causing the problem! Don't put me on Trophy Case Duty! *whimpers* *puts on neck brace to avoid decapitation* Seriously, I think it's my fault that I misinterpreted it.
Also, when he says "that little parasite can run", does he mean RZ can run fast/for ages or that RZ NEEDS to run now?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
He's saying that R.Z. can run fast... If he took his time to punish John, R.Z. would escape. :)
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Thank you! Sorry for mad ramble earlier, totally digging my grave with my typing fingers there.
Ribs can still kill, actually, if they puncture a lung. Unless Beth can fix that.
Am I right about why John can't win? Also, what does RZ mean by super powers? The car?
@MarshmallowGherkin: I suspect it's deliberate - to convey the message that John is so insignificant that Chad can't be bothered to remember his name.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@Magravan: why CAN RZ run fast? Did Beth give him high-speed leg replacements as a protective measure in case Chad (or a One, or whatever) attacked him?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@aok666 - A lot of things can kill, given the right circumstances... I've seen too many episodes of House to think that I'll survive even the smallest broken bone or abrasion ;)

I would say that you are throwing a dart at the right wall, but you definitely didn't hit the bullseye. I've also realized that this is an explanation for Book 4's theme (Which will feature a number of explanations, I believe), so I wont be telling you exactly what it means.

And R.Z. just assumes that John is more capable than he is... Super Powers in R.Z.'s mind do include things like the car and such.

Chad remembers that it's a 'J' name, give him sooome credit. Actually, I think part of it is deliberately screwing with him, trying to drive home the point that he's insignificant, even if Chad remembers his name perfectly well ;)

Annnd yes, the easiest explanation is that R.Z. was given good legs to be able to run from danger.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
You wouldn't want to be me then, I have two split heels which means I can't even limp to take the weight off (can I get foot replacements without having to get entire new legs?). Plus I think I need replacement arms too, I wore them out yesterday carrying two cakes for six hours (having got the day of the party wrong and hence spending a day wandering around the town looking for my friends). And I have a bony bump on my head which ought to terrify me but doesn't.
Sorry for talking too much, even remotely. My friend gave me my Christmas present early: a big jar of chocolates... and I've eaten most of them because I missed lunch. My poor Physiology lecturer suffered for that (I kept asking if the baking soda in cake could affect blood/intestinal pH) and demanded a toffee in return!
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Working out your arms is a temporary inconvenience for a longer term bonus though ;) Granted, if we had replacements, you could just cheat and be like Chehkov... ;)
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Carrying cake is not a workout. I've pulled muscles I didn't know I had. And walking with two split heels hurts so much...
Which reminds me: why do zombies feel pain?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Same reason that people do... Less chance of accidentally breaking yourself. ;)

They certainly have a more muted sense of pain than a person though.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
So why is Chad not surprised at how much pain John is in?
And RZ certainly looked very unhappy when he was overfull of TOGM.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Because Chad expects him to be in a lot of pain. Because that reinforces Chad's opinion of himself as a big, strong person who can take care of things physically.

in refrence to "breaking of the bat" i got that for my brother for christmas, ((it's already been given to him)) i found it at my comic shop and my comic buff friend said it's a pretty coveted issue, so i got it.

@the comic: that looks alot worse than it is, my friend moises kicked me in the chest like that, i had a spare apple and he asked for it, i threw it to him and it split in 2 perfect halves on his head, which was an accident, but y'know getting hit in the head with an apple will piss you off. moises is about as bid as chad. also, i like how chad seems to purposely get john's name wrong, just to be a dick. great work mag. and june your art just keeps getting better. awesome work.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
It is indeed great work :-D and it looks like John has been kicked in the stomach which is why I feared another fake-death for him...
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@model S - I'm glad that people are enjoying the wrong name thing... I originally included it because the strip was pretty dark... I added a couple of extra lines to try to keep it a little lighter...

@aok666 - I promise no fake deaths for John for at least the remainder of this book ;)
model S edit delete reply
model S
@aok: considering that this exact situation ((the kick)) happened to me, i guarentee john is winded and porbably not getting up for a few minutes, but that's nowhere near fatal, now a few more kicks like that, yea that'd prolly kill him.

@mag: "end of this book" great way to throw a sopiler out there without giving it away. and the name thing just seems like something chad would do, i think the main thing i like about TOGM is that the characters stay true to themselves, they act how you'd expect them to according to their set personality from the start, they develope how a real person would, not like arc 1 is john's development, ok he's matured now arc 2 for RZ... then arc 3 for beth... like in some animes or cartoons, everyone matures and grows at the same pace ((well not the SAME pace but same pace as in they're all developing over time at the same time not one at a time))
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Spoiler, or just screwing with people who might read too much into it? :D
model S edit delete reply
model S
O.o OH CRAP! i see what you did there. james you magnificent bastard! ((in a good way)) you really love screwing with your fans don't you.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Ohohoho :) It certainly is fun, but it more trying to avoid making promises I wont keep... In this case, I've already got the strips basically written (for the most part) til 225, so I can say for certain that it wont happen by then ;)
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
225 is the end of Chad's Big Bad, isn't it? So now you yourself know what he's going to do...
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
225 is the end of this book, Chad's Moment is certainly an important part of the conclusion of this portion of the stroy... I haven't written the strips or the dialogues, just the outline... So I haven't determined what feels right to me for how he's going to deal with this...

But we are going to get to see a little bit more of his motivations and such before 225, so I'm guessing that it'll be clearer to me after that's all written out entirely ;)
Nero (Guest) edit delete reply
Well, somebody has to make that big brainless idiot learn his place in this world
Where is the off-remote when you need it?
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
The remotes are in Robert's study or in the hands of the other guards. Chad wasn't there when they gave out off-remotes.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
Must ask in case it becomes important: in the very first strip, did John land IN the dumpster or CRASH AGAINST the dumpster? The shot of him leaning against it with one arm inside it could be him just after the crash, hauling himself up, or could be him having just climbed out.
model S edit delete reply
model S
so far as i know he landed how he was when we saw him. hitting it, and one arm going in, it's actually not as hard as you'd think to end up like that with a small dumpster.
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@model S: if it wasn't hard, why does he have long-term-memory loss? How do you know all this anyway? (I have to ask: how many times have you woken up in a skip?)
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Nero - I don't think that Robert is planning to turn him off anytime soon ;)

@aok666 - Your guess is as good as mine! .. My knowing is better than your guessing though >_>

@model S - How do you even...?

@aok666 - That's a good point... How DOES he know about that?
model S edit delete reply
model S
@aok: it's still metal, and hitting your head hard enough would cause memory loss, however i suspect that john never HAD the memories, so that explains that.

@mag: i do parkour (prolly spelled wrong) or "urban ninja" you'd be suprised how easy it is to land like that on a missed jump. hurts your arm and ass quite a bit ^^; so while i know about it it's not as bad as i made it sound.
Guest (Guest) edit delete reply
Actually, he was just using the dumpster to prop himself up to getting standing up.
UnloggedSkrael (Guest) edit delete reply
Guest is me, Skrael... I forgot to log in :D
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@model S - I... have to be honest, you successfully managed to come up with the one explanation that doesn't sound really weird... A little weird, maybe. But not REALLY weird.

@June - Slacker :P
aok666 (Guest) edit delete reply
@Skrael: so he hit his head on the ground? At high speed? Ow...
@model S: I wish I could do parkour, but I have coordination issues (and am totally unfit anyway, and can't vault) so I'm stuck on ground level :-( I wrecked my arms again just carrying those cakes to the actual birthday lunch thing, my hands shook whenever I tried to use my knife and fork. I think I'm getting through arms faster than R.Z. pre-Horror.
model S edit delete reply
model S
haha. james, that had me laughing for a good 5 minutes. d(^-^)

@aok: i'm not all that fit so i get hurt alot. it's not so bad anymore i'm pretty much numb to any form of damage, so i guess ... that's probably a bad thing isn't it... ah well.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@aok666 - I wish I had the capability of doing it, but I probably still wouldn't do it ;)

@model S - Well I'm glad to amuse :)
