Sorry guys, it's been a tough day... June is under the weather herself, but she also spent a considerable part of the morning tending to a very sick child. I ended up taking a day off work to accomodate it as well, so you can get a sense of how concerning it was.

As for the comic itself, June suggested that it would have been better if I could have had an R.Z. scene to follow. I agree, in a cinematic sense, that it would have been good to have R.Z.'s face in the first panel there...

But ultimately, I didn't have much to say about John and R.Z., and trying to force it was just meaning that nothing was coming to mind. I also couldn't justify sticking with them for a few strips, and June was mentioning that it was getting confusing when I was bouncing between viewpoints with the PSOs / John and R.Z...

So anyway, long story short, this is what we came up with, all things considered. We hope that you enjoyed it anyway ;)

Have a great weekend! I'll be attending a volunteer safety day thing and a game of golf this weekend, so provided I don't get horribly sick, I suspect I'm in for a good time.

Oh, two quick things. Firstly, we were at like ... 27th on TopWebcomics. That blows my mind, we had something like 100 votes a day. Honestly, it got me kind of choked up to see the level of support from the readers... You guys are awesome, thank you.

Also, if you missed it, last Saturday (2 back), I posted about a contest that AngryRob did for a custom figure of the winner's choice, so if you're interested in having a figure of a TOGM character, or one that you find more interesting, you can check that out.

Take care everyone!

Awkward conditions for a first date!

Oh, right, there's just that miiiinor detail, Sylene.

Hope that June feels better soon! :C It's no fun to not feel well, especially when there are responsibilities that get in the way of relaxing...

ahh the craft of custom action figures... brings me back to the days with my fiance... for my birthday one year he made me a custom Martian Manhunter :) he did a pretty good Beast and Venom too

minor details Sylene, can't believe she just can't get past that.

Why is it that powerful lonely leaders who kidnap women always seem to want to have dinner dates with them?

@MatthewJA - And yet still not as weird as a blind date :)

@Kristy - I'm surprised she even mentions it, considering how dedicated she is to the cause ;)

@asheswillfall - That sounds like a smart fiance ;) I'd love to see the Beast one!

@the_brigand - Because they recognize that the people under them aren't their equals, and they want someone who doesn't bow and scrape to them (since their kidnapped victim almost inevitably stands up to them).

Love the light and shadows effect!
I also think the tear ducts aren't the only thing fake on Sylene.

Magravan
Well yeah, everything's fake on her, just like every other zombie in this story... Except maybe Thomas, who is still sporting some of that whole new zombie smell...
asheswillfall (Guest) edit delete reply
@Mag I'm sorry I don't think I could help you there, conditions are no longer favorable for me to have access to the figure or photos.
the_brigand (Guest) edit delete reply
now that you say that Magravan, I can imagine Sylene looking pre-Zombie absolutely nothing like she does now.

Creepy.

Perhaps one day, their pre-enlightenment states will be revealed?

@asheswillfall - Ahhhh, sorry :/

@the_brigand - Yeah, that is always the potential... At least one character in the story is radically different from pre-enlightenment days ;)

@Skrael - Possibly ;)

Great strip again guys.
One small thing though: The lighting on Sylene looks off in the last panel.
In the first three it's natural, because her hair is blocking the candle light, but with her head tilted back like that, her hair would've fallen back as well, thus revealing more facial surface to reflect the candlelight.
As I see it, her entire left facial half should be more lit than the rest.

At any rate: Keep going.

Whoa! Sylene looks awesome here! Like the POV and use of light and shadow. :)

@Muchacho NL - I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about lighting and shadows, but thank you for the advice ;) Hopefully it means more to June :D

@model S - This is not an extra strip, no... This was our Thursday strip.

@MatthewJA - Everything could always benefit from more flashback.

@jordanch68 - Sylene looks awesome in general. She's just cute :D

Best way to draw scenes like that is to first enact them... let her wear a wig with the hair falling like that and make the poses she wants Sylene to make, and you can take pictures of them without a flash.
That way she'll see what parts of her own body are lighted up by the candle.

I was sick, I did it quickly and made mistakes.

Keep up the good work, just quit apologizing for your excellent strip.

If the artwork is not always up to the exacting standards of the artistic team, it is only because you are your own worst critics.

Very few web comics hold a candle to this one! :)

weird. i must be off by a day my brain is all fubar.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Michael Corley - Isn't it romantic? :D

@T. Gatto - I think it's also the fact that she was feeling under the weather when she made it... So she's already frustrated that she didn't have the energy to do some of the things she wanted to do...

@model S - I feel like that some days, especially on the night shift... Starting your day at the end of one day and going into the next sometimes messes with your idea of what was when... ;) Especially on days where I end up finishing work and then staying up all day to switch back to a normal schedule...

@Skrael: It sounds like you feel attacked by my comments.
Please don't. I was merely suggesting to lift your already awesome art to a higher level.

@Magravan: Somehow I actually didn't put a lot of thought in it, it's just something I would do.
