Wow, what a weekend. I played Laser Tag with June and the kids for the firs time in a long while... The first game was decent, but I gave my working vest to someone else and had to wait for another vest to be brought online, but they didn't increase the time... So I got my butt kicked.. (Edit: By butt kicked, I got second place by about 100 points.. Still turfed the rest of them :P) The second game I managed to get the top score for the entire day, so that was pretty awesome :D

There were a group of kids for a party, and they grouped up and found a camping point. My eldest son (who won the first game and got second in the second game) proposed a truce with me, so we went and took down the nest with righteous blasters :D

Then we occupied it and held them off for a little while before abandoning it...

We also went to an entertainment centre and swimming yesterday... I got SOOOO many scratches and bruises by one of my youngest son's friends trying to 'dunk' me... Little bugger! June said that if she didn't know any better, she'd accuse me of cheating on her because of all the scratches and bruising :)

Well, that's probably more than you wanted to hear about my weekend :) I hope you guys had a great one yourselves, and a great week ahead!

See you on Thursday :D

Also, the 11 doors and 12 doors are right across the hall from each other. I promise.

Actually using Sylene as a fashion consultant/make up artist makes perfect sense. I mean if you have someone like her around, you need to put her talents to use!

Funny you say that because I went to prom on friday and afterwards played lasertag as well.

We did one round boys vs girls and all at the same time, the boys hopped on the other side and blasted all of the girls to victory >:D

Well, this made me laugh, a lot. They look like my sister in the morning. ZING!

And dang, I'm not quite sure but your author's note at the end made me laugh hysterically. Not sure if its due to sleep deprivation or if I'm losing what little sanity I have left to be honest.

Ok, so i see 11 and 12 doors are on each side of the wall, but where does 15 come in to the picture? it would be logical to store males on 12 and females on 11(or vice versa)... right?

@Skrael - I take your word for it :D

@bbedlam - Yes! Given that Phantom has a tendency to find a use for everyone, keeping her exclusively as hostage / confidant would be a poor idea...

@DerrickMicheal5 - Haha! My nephew was all freaked out about it before we went.. He kept asking if it would hurt when he got shot, and "what if they shoot me in the face?" and things like that... I realized that based on what he knows about lasers from cartoons, saying "Don't worry, it's only lasers!" probably didn't help...

@Syaoran - Hey, we'll take whatever laughs you have... Sleep deprived or insane, it's all good ;D

@MatthewJA - Glad to hear it ;) I wasn't sure if it was any good, because June's first comment was "I don't really get it.."

@CarlRedifi - I think that they are all kept sporadic... Given the fact that there is not really any sexual activity amongst the zombies, it's kind of moot to separate by gender. ;)

Yeah, i'm not sure I get it either, if it wasn't a pity show and he was showing them to her to show that they looked like crap, then what was it meant to be?
Haven't seen Beth for a while? What are she and Crazy Bob up to?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
The difference is that the Phantom is playing to her logical side, showing her the fruits of their labour, and indicating that it is substandard. He's not appealing to her emotional side, which would be that she feels bad for them instead. Doing it as a pity show would also suggest that the Phantom was hamming it up for the presentation... Whereas these are just the everyday life of the underlings :)

We're going back to Beth for the next comic ;)

This is your funniest comic yet guys :) Well done.

Hell, these past few have been awesome and a perfect stretch for your 300th sub when that happens :D

Keep it up guys

I find it so strange that the ones that I think are funny tend to fall flat, and the ones that I'm like "Well, I don't know what to write, so I'll just throw something at the wall and hope it sticks..." seem to work for people...

Clearly, I have no sense of comedy, and should stop trying so hard :)

maybe i don't know much about 1's but thomas sure seems happy and has personality for a mindless brain hungry zombie?

Oh great first he gets his brain eaten, then the hot purple haired Zombie rejects him, and now he has to come out of the closet eventually.

What's next for out poor hero?

Thomas is sooooo not having a good day, although now I've got this horrible image of John and RZ hiding in that closest and Thomas going BRRRRRRAAAAAAAAIIIIIINNNNNNNNS causing much panic and even more chaos *munches on pocky and waits for the horror*

@Magravan: Basic rule of Comedy: when you try to be funny, you're usually not.
Comedy has to be spontaneous, not something you can force.
You can learn 20 million funny one liners by heart, and desperately wait for the appropriate situation to emerge where you can finally say: "That's not what your mom said!" but that's usually accompanied by a constipated face going like: "Shit, I know a funny line.... 'that's not what your mom said!"... not funny.

Most of my borrowed jokes never work, but when I start ranting at a TV commercial about cat-food, (you know which one) where the guy calls for his cat and then says: "hey, I'm watching the game!" I'm like: "Don't frigging call the cat, asshole! Your wife isn't calling you to bed and when you're there poking her with your babymaker she won't be like "Hey, I'm sleeping, do you mind?"... when my girlfriend first heard that, she was pissing herself with laughter.

Not saying I'm funny... most people at Mushroom Go will probably strongly disagree :p
It's just... long story short: comedy works best when it's out of the blue and genuine... or like you said: "I don't know what to write, I'll just throw something and hope it sticks".
Keep it up :D

I think that's more of a cause than a problem. The problem is suspension of disbelief. if it feels like someone wrote these lines staring a piece of paper giggling, then the actual lines are no longer the focus and thus the joke falls flat.

@drivinallnight - He'll get less happy as the hunger overtakes him... When it's alleviated, Ones can be quite content... At lot of the Ones that we have seen thusfar have been in a stage of hunger though...

@T.Gatto - Hehehe :) And we're switching to another viewpoint, so he'll be stuck in there even longer :D

@Ghost286 - :D Sometimes I forget just how many layers of deception I have piled onto this whole story :D

@Muchacho NL - I actually have no idea what commercial you are talking about ;) Might be a combination of my not really watching anything on TV that isn't PVRed and living in Canada?

I do see what you are saying, but technically everything that I write is pre-planned... It's not like this comic was just me putting words into a random generator and pulling out a finished script...

It's just that some scripts seem to come easily, and this one was like pulling teeth, and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with the scene for the longest time... It was written out of desperation to have something to update with... ;)

Oh well, I'll just be happy that people enjoyed it, even if it was torturous for me to write :D

@Kyo - I think that this one was more based around the joke than most too... Sometimes I'll throw in plot expansion, hints for the future or just world building information just to expand on that aspect of the story while I am trying to put the joke out...

This one, on the other hand, continues the plot, but it is a case where nothing much else is really going on... Sylene at point A is hoping to leave the Phantom's base, and Sylene at point B is becoming convinced that she would be useful here... But it's all within the confines of the humourous exchange...

I think that June's additions like Phantom stuffing Thomas into the closet helps :) The person designing the doors getting a 5 and 2 mixed up was a bit over my head, I have to admit :D

Dunno if it's aired there in Canada or not.
But it's (badly) dubbed here in The Netherlands.
About 50% of our commercials are all from the USA and they're either dubbed or subbed, mostly for international brands.
Like Whiskas.
I know your scripts are pre-planned, but a recent activity or that last moment brain-wave might enable you to alter just that finishing line to give it a good punch.

Example: If the scene where Thomas was turned into a one was uploaded just after the infamous boxing match where Mike Tyson bit in the ear of his opponent, you could add an asterisk to the "BRAAAIIINNSSSSS" and below it say: "Damn it, why couldn't he just go for my ear?"

@Muchacho NL; Reference the commercials, don't worry you are not missing out, they are just as bad without the subs or dubs.
If their is one thing we Americans share freely it's our general lack of good taste when in mass numbers. ;)

@Muchacho NL - You're right, the last minute switch or the pressure of needing to get something done might help :) And yeah, most commercials are terrible, regardless of what country you are living in ;)

@T.Gatto - Well, I am sure the zombies will be ignorant of your lack of a good taste, and just appreciate your mass numbers :D

@Martin Samurai - Hopefully you kept driving :D

I've enjoyed reading for a long time now, but I agree the script can be clumsy at times. I think it's usually a case of it being unclear what the characters are referring to when they make abrupt comments: e.g. which of Phantom's statements does Sylene have trouble believing?

Intriguing storyline and an entertaining concept, nonetheless, and it's fantastic to see creators so keen to interact with their readers. I imagine the two of you enjoy and care about this project a great deal.

Well, I did, up until you called my script clumsy! *cries*

She's having trouble believing the whole concept of what he's saying, mainly that they are only capable of making them look bad... :)

Never found the script unclear tbh but my brain has been officially listed as screwed by every doctor on the planet.

And as for bad terrible terrible adverts they get even more destroyed in the UK import, its bad enough to make a blind mans eyes bleed!.
