Hey guys! Skrael's still working on getting better, so thankfully we've had some really supportive readers who have given us some Guest Comics to host this week to let her rest... You softies! I would have whipped her into making a new one :P

This comes from MatthewJA who does Good Sir, I Cannot Draw which is still far better than I can draw :)

Clearly, MatthewJA has a camera in our house somewhere, because this is pretty much exactly how that script came about. Sometimes we substitute other references, other fruits and other murder weapons, but it's all a part of the Process.

So thank you everyone for your patience, and to MatthewJA and Jrade (Who will be Thursday's guest!) for being awesome.

Have a great week everyone!

Hey guys and girls, how are you all doing? I'm pretty well. Tired, sore and all that, but recovering pretty much on schedule. I want to thank MatthewJA for the lovely and hilarious guest comic tonight, and I want to thank you all for allowing me the grace period to get better from my surgery. I am so glad that most (if not all) of you understand the situation.
I might sit down and write out my hospital experience when I'm a little les tired later on. It was an adventure. I wanted to share a couple of things with you now though. First off, the information packet they gave me on release told me that it was important to "ambulate" .. I thought this was hilarious! I tell James when I need to move around that I need to ambulate now. I feel like a zombie .... rar... hehe.
Another thing is, the exersizes that they are having me do. The little comic dude had me laughing so hard, and I also wanted desperately to offer to redraw them for them. I wanted to share the pictures with you, because they are so cute:

Well there you have it. I'll be in touch again soon!

This time I actually was waiting to get first comment. (not really, I just wanted to see the update)

Thanks for the wonderful authorial note!

GASP! No mouseover text!

Get better soon, Skrael!

EDIT: GASP
Those are the worst stickfigures I've seen (in the ambulate thing)

MatthewJA: Thanks :) Now it's time to take my passin' out pills and well.. pass out. :P
Jamming (Guest) edit delete reply
Great Job on the comic, your description of the creative process just ring so true. I my self always use a banana with a pen stuck up the inside, sort of like those plastic ones but I use a real banana.

@Skrael You should count those pills before you pass out, if short you might want to check Magravan for pill breath.
LazyRanger (Guest) edit delete reply
I...wouldn't be surprised if that was real. :P

@MatthewJA - I use mouseover text sparingly ;)

@Jamming - Bwahahaha... I can pass out from over-exertion, thank you very much ;P I actually did crash for a bit after working the night shift... But I assure you it was genuine tiredness :D

Heck, I don't even like taking a normal Tylenol unless I've got a MAJOR headache...

@LazyRanger - It's actually not far from the truth, except she doesn't really use references anymore ;)

Sure sure.

Heh. I tend to only not use reference images in extremely casual sketches of mine. Pretty much anything more, and I'm not good enough to remember stuff like proportions and tiny details, so I have to have one. Most of the time--'cept when I'm being ambitious, though--I tend to use my own work as my reference. :P

MatthewJA
I was more referencing your statement about RZ's toothlessness.

Heheheh...yeah, physiotherapy drawings are...awesome...

Starting about an hour ago, I started reading this. I just finished everything up to now. IT's awesome. +1 Subscriber
By the way, I'm pretty sure I'm the latest subscriber in TOGM history, but it's all good!
MatthewJA edit delete reply
MatthewJA
I haven't ever read the whole archive.

But I have very good reasons for that.

None of them involve "I don't have enough time", as a matter of fact I have a free 12 hours a day that I don't spend sleeping or eating.
Tze-Ting (Guest) edit delete reply
I thought I accidentally landed on the Buttersafe website! Hahaha, awesome. I've got a weak spot for stick figures. :D
3.4 (Guest) edit delete reply
I get the script and the togm and even the reference-but what's the pencil for?!!!

Hope you get better, Skrael! Everyone has to get sick sometime!
Hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
@3.4
you can't just cut a watermellon with a knife, that would be lame, using pencils is that much more fun
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@MatthewJA - Yeah, but R.Z. wasn't even in that comic ;P

@ranger_brian_new - Well, she used a lot of references when she first started out, but now she's got more of an understanding of the style, she tends to freehand draw most of the time...

@Jrade - That's totally the word I would use too ;)

@DerrickMichael5 - I'm glad you're enjoying it, thank you :) And yes, you probably are the latest.. We only get one every once in a while now.

@Tze-Ting - Well, we could advance the story a lot faster with stick figures ;P

@3.4 - That's what June was wondering ;)

@MasterofWeirdness - She's progressing, for sure :) She said that she felt a lot better in general, but that might have been the last of the drug that they used to put her under going out of her system... Now it's just some pain left, but she seems to be managing that alright too...

@Hagelander - Especially if you use the eraser end!
Hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
"Have at thee vile watermellon, I will Erase you from this very existence!!"
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Or pop out the eraser and just use the metal bit at the end to make little circles :)

The watermelon is clearly a shape reference for R.Z.'s head shape ... sheesh.
Jamming (Guest) edit delete reply
@Magravan Hey there don't get to tired, I think you need to take care of yourself to take care of Skrael. Really I seen it happen, be there for her and don't give her something else to worry about, Kay?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
It can't be helped, I think... I've got responsibilities at work, and responsibilities at home, and unfortunately, being on the shift that I'm on, they don't always play nicely with each other...

On the plus side, I've been doing this for a few years now, so I don't think she's going to get terribly worried about me ;)

In hindsight I probably picked the wrong TOGM comic to display at the bottom. But I had a good reason for that - I wrote up a little TOGM script on that piece of paper. As it turned out, that script happened to identify with a strip I hadn't actually read (as I haven't gone through the archive). So I had to put that one there.
Watermelons are for Syle- nutritional sustenance or who knows what you TOGM guys use for writing. Skrael isn't pissed off, she's just concentrating.
Also, you guys are so insanely awesome/popular my unique views today just skyrocketed. Like, really, really high.

Well, hopefully some people enjoyed the guest comic and enjoy your comic for having seen it.. That's ideally how Guest Comics work ;)

that is fantastic hahaha. i love it, its awesome heh.

Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery Skrael.

Its funny how something as simple as a comic can make you care about people that you have never met..
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
That's a great icon :D And you're right, we form attachments on very strange lines sometimes... But I think that people have dealt with a lot of the same issues, or know people who have... And so there's a sort of global empathy when someone else is suffering through something sucky like that...
luvlyjubblies edit delete reply
luvlyjubblies
heh yeah, its tiger from bear and tiger riding grimlock.

I think for me, i can sometimes tell how someone is feeling from the comic. The art might be a little more aggressive or the facial expressions might be a little less happy than they were in previous posts, and then when something happens its like its happening to someone you know. Of course, im often called crazy heh..
MatthewJA edit delete reply
MatthewJA
What, like, I was pissed off while I was drawing this, so Skrael looks pissed off?

...Pretty much. I was annoyed I couldn't think of any decent TOGM jokes.

heh i wouldnt be able to read you yet, only read some of your work so far:)

I thought that she looked pretty pissed...
then again, that must be her SRS BSNS face.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@luvlyjubblies - I have enough trouble figuring out what the character's feeling half the time, nevermind the artist drawing it :)

@MatthewJA - That could be it lol ;)

@Sarge - Well, that's true... She's pretty SRS BSNS!! around here all the time. :)

i think what we need to do is ask wwtg? (what would tiger do)
im thinking eat cake or ice cream. or both. or have a cake and ice cream sandwich... ok im off to do that now..
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
It's like... snowy out, and I was up all night, and spent some time outdoors... And I still would totally go for an ice cream sandwich if someone handed it to me right now.
Hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
it's way to cold for icecream right now
I came home 4hours ago and my feet aren't finished thawing (is that the good word?) yet

stupid snow, stupid combat boots, stupid socks *grmbl grmbl*
Jamming (Guest) edit delete reply
It's is never to cold for Ice Cream, Infidel.
Ice Cream is the source of all goodness in the World.

Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
Whoah, whoah whoah! Hagelander! Did you actually just say "stupid combat boots"? That's bordering on blasphemic!

Well, okay, not really, but combats are still pretty great...depending on what make of them you've got...what ones do you have?

I've got a pair from Vietnam that are awesome, waterproof halfway up the calf, and make excellent motorcycle boots.

Steel-toes do [i]really[i] soak up the cold, though...so I guess you do have a point...

@ Magravan - I will mail you an ice cream sandwich. You should probably get it in early January. What flavor would you like? I've got Vanilla, Chocolate, and Cookies-and-Creme.

Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Hagelander - That's why it's weird! I was cold, but I still would have eaten said ice cream sandwich ;)

@Jamming - It never did no harm to no one... ;) (Triple Negative makes it okay, right?) Actually, it probably does harm to diabetics and lactose intolerants, unless they've got special ice cream :)

@Jrade - The saddest part is, if you sent it these days, it might actually stay frozen :D
Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
@ Magravan - Well, there's only one way to find out...choose a flavour.
