Hey everyone! Lots of important stuff to say this time, so hopefully people read it.

tl;dr - Guest week next week. Go back 2 for the updated "Work in Progress" strip.

Well, as some / most of you may know, June is going to be doing her surgery on Friday. We're going to be posting the two (or more) Guest comics we've received thusfar (Thanks MatthewJA and Jrade!) in order to compensate for the lack of updates while June rests. If she's still unable to put up a strip after that, well... Hiatus time! ;) Hopefully things will go smoothly and she'll be back up and running soon.

Also, because she has been feeling better lately and needs something to take her mind off of stressful things, she's been working on some Art. One of which was fixing Work in Progress, which was the half-finished 111.. I think that if you check it out, even the most understanding of you who felt that it was fitting will find it a better strip.

That being said, we are really, really grateful to have such understanding readers. It's one of those things that helps combat burnout, because when something comes up, we know that our readers will understand. You guys are awesome, thank you so much!

Other than that, just wanted to say that we have a couple new Links that people might not have seen yet, as well as a new Fan Art page provided by our friend DS-Digicomics or something. I forget what he's going by these days, because I just remember him as the head of our guild when we played WoW way back.

I hope you guys all have a great weekend, see you later!

Any way, Surgery's in around 36 hours from now. Youbetcha I'm scared!!!!!!

I forgot to mention: A couple of photos of me wearing my Love Kills Slowly shirt from AngryRob!

Here

Be sure to check out AngryRob's awesome comic, if you haven't already! Love Kills Slowly

First for a change.
Good luck in your surgery!

And thanks for the sub :D

BTW the knitting looks good, it's like, really natural and all. It's the equivalent of ambient diagetic sound in movies!

@Skrael - It fit with her having a lot of time on her hands, and being involved with sewing on limb replacements ;)

@MatthewJA - Watching the update like a hawk so you can be the first comment poster: Priceless.

I would come up with a really awesome comment, but I'm trying to replace a year's worth of Engineering Physics from this morning with a year's worth of Matrix Algebra for tomorrow morning.

Suffice to say, this is awesome, you're both awesome, and you do awesome work.

Sorry it couldn't be more erudite, words are not currently foremost amongst my concerns...

MatthewJA
Heh. I didn't expect an update, I was just refreshing the front page to see if Skrael had given any more clues.

June, I hope everything goes smoothly with the surgery.

I like RZ's mentality. Hey, you share brains, that means you're best friends for unlife, right?
Kevin edit delete reply
Kevin
I love RZ and Beth. Any time you have that dynamic in the comic, you can pretty much guarantee I'm happy.
MatthewJA edit delete reply
MatthewJA
Well, in the comic, brains are literally the rarest thing in the world.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Jrade - Wow, given what you're doing, we're honoured you took the time to even check it ;) Unless you're procrastinating... Which it sounds like you don't have time to be doing..

@MatthewJA - And while you were posting here, Shaggers got it ;)

@bbedlam - Real brains? If you share it, you're .. well... crazy, really :) But yeah, someone who would be willing to share brains would be like family...

@ Magravan - Yeah...well, you can only go for so long at a stretch, right?

Also, I completely forgot to mention this before, sorry, but - Skrael, hopefully, during the course of your surgery, you don't become one of the hundredth of a percent which develop complications due to anaesthesia and die. That would be very unfortunate.

Quite honestly, though, I'm certain you'll be fine, so long as you rest and listen to the doctor...there's no reason to be scared, surgery isn't as big a deal as people would make it seem. You'll just fall asleep (hopefully quickly) and then wake up later and parts of you will be gone!

I'm (quite literally) certain you'll be fine, and I wish you a swift and uneventful recovery.

There. I could actually feel my brain cool off while writing that. Back to matrices.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@smokie1019 - Wow! It's good to see you around again Smokie! Does this mean that you will be updating the Shroud again? (Smokie does a really well drawn comic about a living sheet... Check it out!)

@Jrade - She's been under it before, so the chances of anything bad happening would be almost non-existent. Worst case scenario would be a 3-5 day hospital stay, but the doctor said he's only done that once in 7 years, and the person had a pre-existing condition that complicated things.

So she definitely should be fine.
Hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
Is sharing BRAINZ like sharing booty?

Skrael, thanks for drawing this comic, I think it's almost time to part with your gallbladder so good luck with the recovery

Jrade, good luck with the matrices, I had an exam about them Wednesday, but that was easy since it's . . . well I don't know how they call that schoool in english, but I'm 17, so calculate it yourself :p

Hiatus? Nevar! Guest comics every week! :P
Seriously, you might only have two, but one of the reasons I didn't make something is I figured you'd be getting swamped by requests... :P

He shared brains-something in seriously short supply these days.
Jamming (Guest) edit delete reply
Hey my last surgery was a blast, had two good operating room nurses, they were with me both before and after. We told jokes and they made me laugh. Particularly before the anesthetic when they give you the pre-knockout shot that makes you loopy. When I came out of it enough one says to the other, "Don't tell him we dropped him on his head." I said, "at least it was a non-vital spot." Good times for a surgery, hope you have funny nurses too. My head did hurt afterward, I wonder...Nah.

@Kevin - I really enjoy their scenes lately ;) R.Z. is a great character, and when June reminded me that R.Z. would probably want to go visit John, it definitely perked up my desire to write new scenes :)

@MatthewJA - If R.Z. was a Three, he might realize what kind of a sacrifice this was for both John (not really) and Beth (Absolutely!) to have given him any brains at all.

@Hagelander - Well, given that brains are like the most precious thing in society... Almost :)

@RedJar - It's going to shift between serious and levity, ideally... When I originally came up with the series, I just wanted to do a slice of life type comic ... for post-apocalyptic intelligent zombies... But then in explaining how they came to be like that, it sort of developed into a storyline comic...

@ranger_brian_new - We'll have to see how things go... It's hard to plan around the resiliency of a human body...

@3.4 - There are very few people that wouldn't have given him absolutely anything that he wanted for those brains.

@Jamming - She's actually had really good nurses in the stuff leading up to it as well... :)

@MatthewJA - It's one of the best parts about making the comic, definitely. And the reason I tend to reply all the time is because I've taken it on as one of the things that I can contribute to the comic, and because I think that Skrael's a little shy with regards to general comments.

@Tze-Ting - She is definitely improving as she gets more comfortable drawing them.. I think that she gets out of practice sometimes with a given character if they haven't been around for a while :)

@Hagelander - Oh definitely... One important point to remember is that this cartoony style is very, very different than what June was mainly drawing beforehand... It took her a while to get used to this type of drawing, especially with the time constraints. I'm sure that as time goes on she'll improve even further, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the comic looks at closer to 1000 or something :)

@the_brigand - When you put it like that, it almost sounds like Vampires :)

But yeah, if you give someone that's basically the equivalent of the Crown Jewels or something, it's hard to say "You know, I don't really want you around." afterward... ;)
Hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
"@3.4 - There are very few people that wouldn't have given him absolutely anything that he wanted for those brains. "

he was indeed very pleased with the thing he recieved in return for those brainz, and he actualy has a favor to ask, so probably another strip show

I have a time machine. I've already gone ahead and June's surgery is a smashing success. While I was there, I tried to see the winning lotto numbers but forgot to take my glasses, rats.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Well that's awfully nice of you Mo.. While you've got the time machine, can you go back by about 2 years to save her the attacks that were dismissed as acid reflux in the past? :)
moizmad edit delete reply

The reverse-gear is a little twitchy, the last time I used it I almost eliminated myself from existence and I wouldn't want to eliminate poor June would I?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Haha! Probably best you don't :) Darn twitchy gears... They just don't make time machines like Hollywood would have us believe they do....
Remus (Guest) edit delete reply
HaHa, it's true, you have to be careful with those Non name brand time machines, almost only counts with Horseshoes and Hand Grenades :) Now if you had a Dolorian...
Skrael (I'm the artist)
Thanks Mo :P I am sure I will be fine too, once they get me there and give me some fine drugs!
Remus (Guest) edit delete reply
June You'll be fine, I know it. And also.... I took care of my step dad while he was in for surgury and recovery, and all I can say is They Got some real POWERFUL stuff floatin out in the Mediverse for you to look foward too ;)
idd (Guest) edit delete reply
@Skræl I just hope they have come up with a better way to knock you out than they had in the 80's when I didn't have my surgery twice. Getting knocked out twice, was enough to make me decide to go home. When you get back you will have to tell us how they put you under.
Hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
they use a syringe filled with powerfull stuff instead of a mallet
ever seen animal planet? they can shoot a dart filled with the same powerfull stuff to make an elephant fall asleep
but because Skrael isn't an elephant they are going to inject less of it and use a syringe instead of a rifle with darts
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Remus - That's the classy way to time travel... Bill and Ted needed a phonebooth!

@idd - I think she already knows the names of the stuff they'll be using.. But yeah, it's not a 2x4, thankfully ;)

@Hagelander - That would certainly make my visit to the hospital more interesting ;D

mhh, yes
I could imagine a man in a black suit entering your room "it's time for your operation" and then shoot you in the chest with a handgun, but instead of killing you it's just a dart

though old ladies dying of a heart attack might be a reason not to do such things :p
Magravan edit delete reply

@illyria - Funny that you picked Fox ;)

@Hagelander - Crikey! We've been hunting Mr. Jackson all through the intensive care, he's proved an elusive beast... There he is! *POW!* Right! Will you look at those teeth! They could have been chomping on my leg! Well, let's get him in for his procedure.

The money they'd make off the show would pay for the lawsuits that would inevitably come up ;)

Yay for successful surgery - make sure you stay off of your gallbladder for a few weeks now...

how big was the needle?
how big is the scar?

did they accidently remove your bladder instead of your gallbladder? (would be hell of a joke, well not for you, but the lawyers would laugh beofre making them pay you a few mill)
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Jrade - Thankfully there wasn't a need to amputate all of her limbs to get at the gall bladder ;)

@Guest - There are lots more reasons too ;) She's also got a great personality ;)

@DSW - Considering some of the stuff that people are selling these days, I wouldn't be surprised, actually...

@Lunaris_Starchilde - Well, we're going to be getting to that strip right after the Guest week, provided June's feeling well enough to draw them :)

@Hagelander - She didn't remember any needle, she can't see the scar yet and I certainly hope they didn't remove her bladder... Personally, I'd rather they keep their money and she keep her vital organs :D
MatthewJA edit delete reply
MatthewJA
@Guest, by your definition Skrael would certainly be popular in the TOGM universe!
Also, I agree with DSW.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Well let's just say they could do without the beauty, talent and personality and still be happy with her ;)
MatthewJA edit delete reply
MatthewJA
Well, if they like her brains THAT much, she'd probably not end up with much beauty/talent/personality.

BTW, did you remember to check whether or not the doctor was a zombie before the operation?
Skrael (I'm the artist)
LOL you guys are all making me laugh :)

MathewJA: I did check the Doctor's face before they knocked me out, he had a mask on, and I asked to see his face so that I knew it was the right guy (he obliged)

I was really hoping to say something cool like "Am I a One now?" When I woke up, but I don't think that I did. :)
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Which might have been proof that you were? :)
MatthewJA edit delete reply
MatthewJA
Magravan, I'd check to be sure.
Just look - does Skrael have any open wounds, black irises, messy hair, tattered clothing or missing body parts?
What about bruises or other signs of trauma?

@MatthewJA oops, you got me .. I have all of those symptoms! >:/ Now to start my own apocalypse! muhuhahaha

MatthewJA edit delete reply
MatthewJA
BTW, if Skrael still isn't ready to draw TOGM after you've exhausted the Guest Comics, I can attempt an actually TOGM-related guest comic.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
I think that would be a lot nicer than the way that R.Z. got his brains :)

She said she might try drawing tomorrow, but I'm not sure if it is related to the comic or not :)

I appreciate the offer though, and I'm looking forward to showing the other one off on Monday :D It made us both laugh, as well as some of the house guests that we showed it to ;)
MatthewJA edit delete reply
MatthewJA

MatthewJA edit delete reply
MatthewJA
If I ever think of some kind of funny thing for TOGM... I'll be sure to send it through. I hope you don't mind :P
Also I mentioned it on GSICD.
idd (Guest) edit delete reply
@magraven I'm glad she is back with her working bits and on the mend.

If Skræl doesn't remember a needle then they don't knock you out the same way anymore. Or Maybe they do but they put you out with something else before they do it. The two inch long needle they jabbed me in the ass(Gluteus Maximus) with twice (on consecutive days) is something I am unlikely to ever forget. They said it was because that was the only muscle that was large enough to absorb the knockout drugs. The second time I asked why they couldn't put me under with NO2 before the needle treatment but was told to just roll over instead.
Skrael (I'm the artist)
They gave me a needle through the IV, then put a gas mask on my face .. smelled like nail polish remover .. so gross. When I woke up, I had a strange puncture/bruise on my leg. I presume that was from a Demerol shot.
