Mmmmmm Thursday TOGM...

And we're back to R.Z. and Beth! Woooo! I enjoyed this one as it was, but June added the R.Z. diabolical planning session, so I added some text to facilitate it. Hopefully you guys liked it too :)

We're going to be playing some Battletech again today, and I've got to make a storyline that interests players who have never played before and those who have played quite a bit. So far, it seems to be going well, even if I just kicked their butts in the Sim with a small group consisting of a mech that will be part of their group later... That's going to suck when it's on the other side of the field... ;)

I really enjoy Battletech because it is very strategic on one hand, but luck plays a huge role.. Like 2 instances of a 15 missile barrage only hitting with 5 of said missiles (which is really bad), but managing to put both into the head and one critical hitting the cockpit....

Anyways, hope you guys have a good weekend!

I want a Fort of Doom! D:
Hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
If she only knew how much he IS enjoying the results of his half . . .
Magravan edit delete reply

@Demus - I know! Serves her right for assuming ;)

@MarshmallowGherkin - Occupancy is apparently bought with brains ;)

@Hagelander - Well, at least the fruits of his half ;)

I've got some spare brains I would gladly forfeit as a fort entrance fee!

Considering how often I see the two signatures, eventually, I caved in. And when I read the about page, it reminded me of an old story I had thought of but never wrote. ('Cause by then, I had started over eighty and learned better than to start something I wouldn't finish.) So, I've done some reading and like it, already. :)
Magravan edit delete reply

@Jrade - Oh god, I just got the mental image of someone dropping some brain-looking thing in front of us at a Con or something, asking for membership to the Fort of Doom ....

@ranger_brian_new - I actually kind of forgot we had an About Page, I had to look at it to see what was there lol :) Thanks for finally checking us out :)

Yes, John and his pack of Kleenex are enjoying his half. Not sure if she is mad/upset about the fact she stripped for him (he never forced her to) or the fact he wasnt keen to pounce on her or wanted her to come back after. She seemed to be fine when leaving. Meh, never understand women living or undead lol

Explaining to RZ though that john found some real brains prob wasnt the best of ideas as when Chad comes back and it all slips out, given the fact there arent meant to be any more kicking around, it may cause issues.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Ice the frosty cat - I think your comic is making your paranoid :P

@Ant - She got duped... He said it in a leading way :) I'm looking forward to the next interaction with Chad, to be honest :)
PixieSingsBass (Guest) edit delete reply
@Ant - I think Chad might wonder how the hell RZ became a 3 anyway, won't he? At least, we're all hoping he 'levels up', right? I sure am!
model S (Guest) edit delete reply
RZ aquired "real brains" RZ has used "real brains" XP+1000 RZ has leveled up, RZ is now level 3, RZ has learned "proper speech patterns", RZ has learned "when to shut up"...

that should totally be a bonus image.

in response to the comic, i amd so bringing you brain jello and cookies (home baked the kind you like) at a con and asking for entrance to the fort of doom if you ever come to florida.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@PixieSingsBass - That would be something to think about...

@Model S - Ha :) I don't think that becoming a 3 would teach him when to shut up :)

Ok, i registered on the forum, now I need to find out how to post comments as a non-guest . . .

this needs to be a comic.
john and beth drive by a mcdonalds-
j: there's still mcdonalds!? cool!
b: yea and it's made of the same stuff
j .... really?
b: it was enough like TOGM it didn't need to change, infact TOGM is based on mcdonalds meat.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Hagelander - You have to register on Comicfury to post here as a non-guest... Unfortunately, I don't know any way to tie it to the forum...

@model S - Hahaha! I enjoy a Double Big Mac once in a blue moon, but I don't eat it very often at all anymore.. Mainly if I get take out, I split on a large pizza with a co-worker, or we get twin at home :D Or, far more rarely, because it's more expensive, Large Poutine! Which is awwwwwesome the way that they make it at a local restaurant :D

Why wouldn't John be enjoying what he got for his half? If Beth is going go the full monty, he may as well enjoy it... and thanks the joys of video, he can enjoy it ALL. NIGHT. LONG.

And today's RZ kind of reminds me of Brain from Pinky & The Brain. "What are doing tonight RZ?" "The same thing we do every night, John... TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD (and eat some brains)"
Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
If I can arrange transport to a Con (eg. get gas money for my motorbike, and time off of university), I promise to bring the brains.

Before you start worrying - relax, they're not my brains.
model S (Guest) edit delete reply
hehe it'd still be funny to see that conversation take place in the comic.

Awww! RZ makes my life happier every time I see him! *hugs*
Magravan edit delete reply

@bbedlam - Well, he technically got it for nothing ;) And I enjoyed Pinky and the Brain quite a bit! He was certainly going for the diabolical dictator plan ;)

@Jrade - Well that's ... reassuring.... :P

@model S - It could always be in a guest comic too ;)

@geekgrrl - Me too.. I'm probably biased though ;)

Isn't it amazing how many people have registered on ComicFury due to The Other Grey Meat? I'd estimate it's at least five, by now. :P
Anyway, I've rather enjoyed the read. ;)
(Yes, I got them all done, every comic and the comments, too. 125 comics in only two days isn't *that* fast, right? Right? Okay, so I *really* enjoyed it! :P)
I, too, would think RZ* becoming a 3 would be interesting, though I admit, I wouldn't be that disappointed if he didn't. Has its pros, and its cons. ;)

*(I still have trouble with that. I get it right about a third of the time, say "Ar--Zi-ed" another third, and it gets worse from there. :P I also was having trouble remembering the first letter, until I remembered the "Robotic Zombie!" suggestion someone made. :P)
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Yes, if he ever puts up referrals, we'd be owed a fair number of back referrals :P I'm glad that you've enjoyed the story, and 125 in two days with all the comments is pretty darn good :)

I agree with you about R.Z., becoming a 3 has pros and cons for him. We'll see how things turn out... eventually :)

Robotic Zombie is a good way to remember it :)
Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
I'm actually curious about that, and have been since I started directing TV episodes of TOGM in my head...

Being that you're Canadian, one would assume a pronunciation of "Arr Zed", given that that's how Canadians pronounce "Z", however it's less dissonant to say "Arr Zee".

What are the creators' takes on this whole etymological dilemma?
Skrael (I'm the artist)
I definitely say Arr Zed. In fact, I corrected a friend in real life last night on the pronunciation of his name. And he is Canadian. For shame!
Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
Where does he live? I'm going to egg his house. He should know better!
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Jrade - It's officially Arr Zed, even though the story doesn't necessarily happen in Canada. Apparently the zombieism causes Canadian tendencies ;) I said Arr - Zee for a bit at the start, but June corrected me enough that it's officially Arr Zed now :)

As for where he lives.. Uhm... In Ontario somewhere :) If you get a big enough egg, you could get him?

Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
Good to know the proper pronunciation. If this turns out a prophetic work, it would behoove one to not anger the zombies with improper pronunciation.

I'm on it. Time to start irradiating some Ostriches, because everyone know irradiated things are bigger.

Anybody willing to lend me some Cobalt-60? I ran out.
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
If this turns out to be a prophetic work, you've got a lot more to worry about than bad pronunciation :)
Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
What, me worry?

I am psyched for the Zombiepocalypse!
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Speaking of which, are you looking forward to the new Walking Dead series?
ranger_brianna_new edit delete reply
ranger_brianna_new
I imagine I wouldn't be, y'know, the *last* human alive, but I definitely would have limited zombie exposure (and I own a lot of weapons), so I think that I'd fare a lot better than people in a city. (I'm basically living in a forest.) Unfortunately, as was mentioned, the Zombie Survival Guide does not deal with smart zombies, so when the zombies begin HUNTING humans (instead of just finding them)... :P
Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
I haven't heard of the Walking Dead series, what is it?

I'm of mixed feelings on the whole zombie-killing thing. On the one hand, that used to be a person and maybe with a cure (or TOGM-like circumstances) they could be a person again...

On the other hand, it's them or me and in that situation...let's just say lack of survival is an unacceptable option...
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@ranger_brian_new - If they are TOGM style zombies, you're boned. I'm going to have fun later on telling about some of the fun that the higher levels of zombies had... Let's just say that most people didn't stop after two people...

@Jrade - Well, I've been told that it's a comic series (graphic novel, whatever..) that has been made into a TV show about zombies... It's premiering on Hallowe'en on AMC in Canada.. Not sure whether it is coming out anywhere else? I don't know... If you're into Zombie shows though, the preview looks kind of cool... And it's a series! Which means that it's not a movie where they just have to survive for 2 hours worth of viewing, but for an extended period...

It also means that it was good enough to get someone's attention to be made into a series... So that's bonus points as well... Now, if they can just manage to not screw it up......

Edit: Why do I get the feeling that someone's going to say something like "Pfft, we've had that for years! It's not new! Hell, it's already cancelled in our country. What kind of backwards ass country do you live in anyways?"

Backwards ass country with free health care!
Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
Woohoo for free health care! It's the only reason I still have a leg! True story.

I will definitely make sure to check that series out, it's not like I have other Hallowe'en plans...

Wait a second...one of my friends had said something about a zombie walk, I'll need to check on that. Regardless, I have a PVR so I should be able to catch it no problem.

Are you guys planning on participating?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
I'll have to talk to June about it ;)
Hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
mhh, fighting against hordes of mindless zombies results in killing fast enough

but when you are facing a horde of zombies who look like humans, are as smart as humans, have excess to more weapons and don't care about a few bulletholes in their chest . . .
I'm going to need a bigger sword and replace my crossbow with a balista :p
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Yep... Once they hit 3s, it was pretty much over for most of humanity... 4s basically finished the holdouts off ;) Equal levels of brains, access to weapons and knowledge meant that things weren't going to go well...

And yeah, when they can ignore most wounds, it's not a fight I'd want to start :) It would be like fighting that reaaaaaaalllllly drunk guy who is feeling no pain... You may be able to hit them, but it isn't likely to accomplish much...
Skrael (I'm the artist)
I wasn't planning on attending the Zombie walk. Money's tight enough right now, let alone worrying about costuming ourselves.

My harddrive died Tuesday, so I've been without the internet most of the week. I just now checked the comic while visiting my parents. Great work, guys.

Skrael, I especially wanted to give props for the art on this one. Beth's pose in panel 1 looks incredibly natural, and I love R.Z. in panel 3. He has the perfect mix of diabolical and innocent. Good job!
Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
Yeah, I understand. You would need truly outstanding costumes, not just be any old One.

Hopefully with Fours, you could reason with them? Maybe?

Okay, maybe not...
ranger_brianna_new edit delete reply
ranger_brianna_new
Lol, even with TOGM, it's more than "maybe"--it's possibly probably almost certainly definitely not. :P
(Beth's barely able to stop herself, and she stopped once she became a two, so she has a lot more control than most people zombies*.)

*"Zombies are people, too!" :P**
**Considering how there are pretty much infinitely more zombies than humans, perhaps it'd be more accurate to say, "Humans are people, too!"? :P

(Also, with where I live, there probably wouldn't be many twos, and certainly not any threes or fours, not for quite some time. People do live around me--just not that many. So, I imagine I'd last until threes and fours show up--which wouldn't happen, most likely, until after the most-populated areas [that is, cities] were depleted. In other words, threes and fours, I'm screwed against, but they'd have to travel a long way to get to me. There's a reason pretty much every Zombie film takes place in a city and/or mall--because it's harder to believe the outbreak would spread that fast in a more isolated community. ;) )
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Kevin - Sorry to hear that... We've had 2 hard drives fail this year ourselves, so I feel your pain... I love what she's been doing with R.Z. lately... I probably am more empathetic with him because I see a lot of my son in him, but I know that his actions are definitely making me connect with his emotional state...

@Jrade - I dunno, I'd be okay being any ol' One ;) And yes, you could reason with them. Research has shown that they are willing to concede their desire to devour your eyes if you're willing to open the door. It's a very productive give and take ;)

@ranger_brian_new - Beth is a special case :) Most people would just kill and eat your brains, unfortunately.
Jrade edit delete reply
Jrade
@Magravan - So...with Fours the pen might actually be mightier than the sword?

I've tested that axiom before and been sorely disappointed...well, as disappointed as one can be whilst hacking pens to bits...

Dressing up as a Four would be cool, but you might look a little out of place...

@ranger_brian_new That last line made me laugh so hard! That will be the first "signature" I've ever had on a forum, assuming that's alright with you?
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
Uhm... Provided you wanted to make relatively irrelevant demands in return for going easy, yes :)
ranger_brianna_new edit delete reply
ranger_brianna_new
Go ahead. ;)
Hagelander (Guest) edit delete reply
if you get turned early in the outbreak you will have more chances to find a humand and eat its brains, thus leveling up
thus, if you live in a metropolis or if you are realy suicidal you will have a bigger chance of becoming a 3 or a 4 (and a bigger chance of having your brains spread across the street with a shotgun since most armed resistance wouldn't be put down yet)

so us rural area people are fucked, and why don't you have a massive amount of 4s or even a few 5s in places like china and india

one zombie could easly feed on 20+ people if it's one of the first to be turned
Skrael (I'm the artist)
I was saying to James last night how I would probably just surrender myself. I'm so bloody scared of zombies, I'd rather die than live in fear.
Ant (Guest) edit delete reply
Just read the Zombie survival guide by max brooks has all the advice you need for not being a shambling moaning corpse. That or drink some coffee before going to work on a monday morning :P
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
@Hagelander - It's a gamble.. You go in early, but you don't have other Fours to back you up, so you've got a good shot at being shot... Or you hold out, and there isn't enough to reach Four anymore...

@June - It'd have to be behind my back :P I've got enough preservation instinct for both of us ;)

@Ant - I get the feeling that the people who read that book would be the ones who contract it by chance before it's a genuine zombie outbreak... Just for the irony ;)

I LOVE THAT GAME! Too bad that here in Australia, you can't buy the miniatures...or the old PC games...or the tabletop game books...
Magravan edit delete reply
Magravan
The above refers to Battletech :D

The old PC games are pretty cool.. I remember playing Mechwarrior 2 on my friend's Mac when it was shiny and new... It was AWESOME running around in Clan Mechs :D Pew Pew!

We bought a starter set and then some of the guys have been buying / bringing their mechs... :) I actually hacked out a large portion of the rules and am running an arcade style game now...
